If you have a tooth that is broken, chipped, cracked, or stained, or if you simply have a missing tooth, Dr. Svans can restore both function and aesthetics by placing a dental crown over the compromised or missing tooth. We offer the option of either traditional or same-day dental crowns, and we’ll help you decide which is best for you, based on your needs, preferences, and situation.
What Are Dental Crowns?
Dental crowns can help restore your traumatized or decayed teeth by encasing them in a strong, durable cap. Many people choose crowns because they can improve the smile quite dramatically, hiding stains, discoloration, and cracks.
Same-Day Crowns
When you come in for a consultation, Dr. Svans will conduct a thorough evaluation of your teeth which will help him decide whether you’re a good candidate for a same-day crown.
If you are a good candidate and you elect to get a same-day crown, we’ll begin by giving you a local anesthetic. Then, Dr. Svans will clean your tooth and remove any damaged tissue. We then take pictures of your teeth, which allow us to design a mold that fits perfectly with the rest of your mouth.
Placing Your Crown
After the crown is fabricated, we place it over your tooth and take care to make sure it fits properly and that the color is right, matching the rest of your teeth. If we don’t need to modify it, then we secure the crown. For many patients, the entire procedure can be done in about an hour and a half.
The Benefits of Crowns
Whether you choose a traditional or a same-day crown, there are multiple benefits you can then enjoy once your crown is in place. Crowns can:
- Restore teeth that have been chipped or broken
- Protect weakened or damaged teeth
- Seal a tooth damaged due to root canal therapy
- Hide badly discolored or misshapen teeth
